EMERGING IDENTITIES: HITS NYC FRIDAY

FRIDAY
THE PREMIERE!!!
What happens when Three Colorful Agents for Change
put their bodies on the line?
Identities Emerge, Truth is told, and Change is made
in a country where many voice and faces yearn to be heard.

Everyone is asking: What is Emerging Identities?
Boldy this body of performance deal with identity through connecting personal experiences to political issues that affect people of color in the United States. Dealing with US/Mexico border culture and politics, black male fatherhood, brotherhood, and masculinity/sexuality in the 21st Century.
These brave performances ask the question:
what happens when you put your body on the line?
What will you convey?
And who will be next?

EMERGING Identities:
featuring the one-act performances by
NYU's Gallatin graduate students:
marcus d. Harvey, Yadira De La Riva,
and Cornelius Jones, Jr.

baba by marcus d. harvey is an autobiographical solo performance piece about the search for father(hood) and identity in a world where growing up black, male, and without a father is a hindrance. An emotional journey using music, movement, multi-media and text to explore ideas of the self and searching for love, manhood, and blackness.

One Journey by Yadira DeLa Riva is a woman's coming of age story through fences, concrete, citizenship papeles,

immigration policies and booby traps of the El Paso, Texas and Ciudad Juarez border between the United States and
Mexico. Through this Journey she attempts to stitch the border wound of her identity, family and community back
together.

HomoAffection: Memories of a Nature Boy by Cornelius Jones Jr., explores the dynamics of black masculinity and identity through male-to-male intimacy, and ideas of fatherhood, brotherhood, sexuality, and HIV/AIDS. The piece is a conceptual narrative, an autobiographical tale of adventures, memories, dreams and visions, told through movement, text, spoken-word, music, and multi-media.
