I'll Show You Mine if You Show Me Yours, or, The Crap That Lives In My Purse.

I've seen posts like this all over the Blogosphere lately, so I'm finally jumping on the bandwagon. I wish I remembered where I'd seen them all so I could give credit where credit is due. If you know, please email me so I can edit this to include those bloggers!

Exhibit A:
My Gap handbag I got on sale for $16.99 a few weeks ago. Looks innocent enough, right? Yeah, well, let's just say looks can be deceiving, people.

Exhibit B: This is me. Apparently.
Photobucket

In true Ally Sheedy/Breakfast Club fashion, I dumped all its contents onto the living room floor. Then I took photos of things in small groups. However, please note that not surprisingly, no makeup, fun headbands, or Capn' Crunch cereal were found in my purse.

In no particular order, here is everything that was/is in my bag.

1.) About 22 pieces of UNused Kleenex. Because it would be too easy to keep it in its handy little travel pack.
2.) New package of Heartgard for Monster. I don't accept plastic shopping bags, so sometimes I just stuff things in my purse.
3.) New package of Frontline for Monster. Got 1 vial free. Yay! I never get anything free! Well, I didn't. My dog did.

1.) Bag of almonds for me. Been using same Ziploc for them for entirely too long. Because I'm green. Or just gross, your call.
2.) Animal crackers, one pack per hooligan. Never ever leave home without sustenance for kiddos. And they have to be exactly the same, or it might cause World War III.
3.) Annie's fruity bunnies. The girls' favorite snack. One I can feel sorta good about. Maybe.
4.) Think Thin protein bar. My favorite meal on-the-go.

1.) Envirosax reusable pink bunny shopping bag. Holds up to 44 lbs. of stuff. Always keep one balled up in my purse.
2.) Purple reusable produce bag from Whole Foods. Always keep one in my purse.
3.) Small pack of Hello Kitty wipes. Because my kids had to have 'em & because Hello Kitty rocks.
4.) Pink composition book. For all the stuff I'm not writing or should be writing down.
5.) The Alchemist by Paulo Coelo. Haven't started reading it yet. Never be without reading material.
6.) Box of Altoids. Because I have halitosis. Or diarrhea of the mouth. Or something. I stink.
7.) Boxes of crayons from Nordstrom's Cafe. I think they get thrown away (after use) otherwise, so we bring them home. Like we need more crayons around here.

Misc. papers:
1.) Agenda from my most recent PJ Library Committee meeting with my notes scribbled all over it.
2.) Yellow menu from Great Harvest Bread. Because I absolutely need more carbs in my life.
3.) Black sunglasses case from Ann Taylor Loft.
4.) ASPCA brochure: 101 Things You Didn't Know Could Harm Your Pet. Because I love my doggie (and animals in general) and support the organization.
5.) PJ Library enrollment brochure so I can stalk Jews people while I'm on the go.
6.) Small, white bullet-shaped Natracare tampon. (under the sunglasses case) Because even when I'm in the red, I'm still green. But not like all Christmas-y, because I'm a Jew and we do Hanukkah over here.
7.) Flyer and hand-written notes from a workshop we recently attended where Susan Stiffelman spoke about "Parenting Without Power Struggles." One of my children who shall remain nameless is the reason we attended said conference. Hint: her name begins with "A." But I'm not saying anything more.
8.) Ginormous vet bill receipt for grooming and labs for Monster. But bonus-- a rebate form for the Heartgard! I can get 12 whole dollars back! Woohoo!
9.) Miscellaneous note/list of stuff I need to do but haven't yet. Oy vey.

1.) Pens--six of them. Because somehow, even with that many in my purse, I'm always digging for and unable to find one when I most need it.
2.) Random Hello Kitty band-aid. Because boo boo's happen. A lot. And only something with that god forsaken cat on it Hello Kitty can stop the fake tears.
3.) My regular key chain and my spare car key chain. Because it really makes sense to drive around with my spare key in case I lock myself out of my car.
4.) Contact lens case.
5.) Stupid Sprint cell phone. That doesn't give me any service in my own house.
6.) Small tube of Cetaphil hand lotion.
7.) Small bottle of hand sanitizer.
8.) Box of Shut The Hell Up gum. Just because I liked the box. 12 kinds of awesome, people.
9.) Hobo wallet from my BFF Shelly Kramer. It's da bomb diggity. And she has one just like it.
10.) Misc. hair clips/accessories including Hello Kitty ponytail holder. Because in case it's not obvious, we like that chic. I mean cat.
11.) Old bottle of Cymbalta which is now filled with various vitamins, Advil, and Pepcid for all the heartburn my kids give me.
12.) Plastic witch finger with red nail polish on that I was instructed to hold onto because someone else was too lazy tired busy to hold it herself.

So let's see what's in YOUR bag!

Tickled Pink Today With Holly of 504 Main

I'm Tickled Pink to hitch a ride on Holly's coattails over at 504 Main again today. Her DIY projects are so inspiring (yet completely out of my league), and I will never forget her chicks on a stick or her hubby's birthday chandelier---two of her signature crafts that always come to mind when I think of Holly. All the crafty classes in the world could never make me into the guru she is!

But I'm back to the green (mostly) today. I'm starting off with Four Paws Doggie Doo Bags. They are biodegradable with easy-tie handles. I'm sure there are many other brands, but these are what I've currently got.

Last weekend I was Tickled Pink to find this Avalon Organics Shampoo & Conditioner at Lee's house. It's made with tea tree oil, eucalytptus, rosemary and mint and smells DELISH! It left my hair soft and shiny. As soon as I got back to KC, I went to Whole Foods and got my own. I'm loving it!

Avalon Organics' Standards:
• No sodium lauryl/laureth sulfate, or other harsh chemicals
• No parabens, harsh preservatives, or grapefruit seed extract
• No synthetic fragrances or colors
• pH balanced
• 100% vegetarian ingredients and no animal testing

My girls are loving their new Burt's Bees all-natural toothpaste! They are partial to the berry flavor. And if you didn't already guess, yes, this toothpaste is PINK.
Banana Republic's new Heritage Collection, which was launched earlier this spring, also has me Tickled Pink. All items in the line are crafted from organic cotton, bamboo, and soy-silk. Patagonia and American Apparel are also companies known for offering eco-friendly clothing options. Patagonia even recycles their clothing through their Common Threads program.

Nike Tickles me Pink because they've initiated Reuse A Shoe, a program that recycles any brand of old athletic shoes. If you are a serious Jazzerciser runner or 30-Day Shredder, you probably go through shoes pretty frequently, so this is an especially neat way to make something new out of something old.

On an entirely different note, my daughters' new mid-summer do's have me Tickled Pink. Take a look and tell me I'm not just biased:

My trip to Houston last weekend was amazingly fun. I hung out with Lee, Tracie, Traci of 38 & Growing, and Leiah of A Southern Belle Trying Not to Rust. Be sure to check out Leiah's Sopapilla Cheesecake recipe here! 38Traci already blogged about our Snarkler evening in the dark it's not what you're thinking. So did Stir-Fry Tracie, read all about that and her toaster oven here. Lee even indulged me and took us to Ruggles Green, which serves raw, vegan, and vegetarian fare. Nom nom nom!

Confession: I've never really had a girls' weekend before. I'm Tickled Pink that these snarky, fantastic women put up with me, included me, and made me feel like I am fun, funny even if I make peverted shaped challah when I'm drunk and best of all, loved. Years ago when I began blogging, I never dreamed I'd make real friends this way and even better, get to MEET them in real life. I hope to see my friends again soon, and perhaps go to a bloggy conference and meet new ones. I love my besties!

By now you know reusable bags Tickle me Pink. Fun ones are even better. Check out these series from Envirosax. Don't they just beg you to GO GREEN?!! They hold up to 44 pounds. Don't even try to tell me your craptastic plastic can do better. Be sure to search Google for the best deals on them!

Also, I am sort of a snob about my books. I prefer them new. I loathe germs. But my desire to be green has outweighed my fear and I now shop frequently at Half Price Books. I spent $60 this week and came away with new vegetarian cookbooks, fiction for me, and several classics for the girls. All in beautiful condition, barely/gently used, and therefore saving trees and green in more ways than one!
Two last things that have me Tickled Pink: Honest Tea and Honest Kids. I love the Pearfect White Tea and my kids love the Berry Berry Good Lemonade (and it's PINK). Of course I recycle my glass tea bottles and I send the girls' juice pouches to Terracycle, so it's all good and green.

What tickles you pink?

Tickled Pink Today With Holly of 504 Main

I am Tickled Pink about so many things I don't even know where to begin! I absolutely adore this Friday tradition that Holly over at 504 Main started a few months ago. Her recent post "Raw, Green, and Feeling Fab" inspired me on so many levels. In addition to being polished and published, Holly is a Green Gal who's really thinking about what she's eating lately. You should check her out, especially that particular post.

Anypink, on with my list!

First, I am Tickled Pink that I won Project Mommyhood's Top Mommy Blogger of the Year Contest! Thank you all so much for your votes, tweets, and support last week. Lesley emailed me to let me know, but she's been a little busy, what with her baby due in 5 weeks and the fact that her hubby just returned from his recent deployment to the Middle East. So stay tuned for further details and a more formal announcement.

I am also Tickled Pink to declare with great pride that since Earth Day in April, I have gone vegetarian. With the exception of eating fish a few times, I have had no meat at all. I'm considering eliminating fish as well. It all started when I watched Food, Inc. (please watch it, if even to just educate yourself). I am also reading Jonathan Safran Foer's Eating Animals. I am really thinking about what I buy, eat, and feed my family. Because of Holly, I am going to try adding greens (spinach, kale, etc) to my morning fruit/protein smoothie. As of this morning, I'm down to 139.4 pounds, the lowest I've been in a loooooong time. I'm not sure if it's due to the new vegetarianism, doing Jillian's 30-Day Shred & Jazzercise, or eating healthier/greener. Probably a combination of all of it, but I'm thrilled!
I'm Tickled Pink that my compost tumbler is already half full and that my little herb garden is thriving. I also started one of those upside down tomato plant growers. If that works out, we will move on to bigger and better things! I also shipped out my Get Your Green On gift pack to the winner from Duck Fest. It was chock full of Envirosax, Beecology products, a reusable coffee cup, Yes To Carrots lip balm, some Twist dish scrubbies, and a few other GREEN things. So of course I had to use the cute lil button Deb and I have. Speaking of Deb, she's got a GREEN post up today too, so please visit Menopausal New Mom now!

I am Tickled Pink about the bloggers I've recently started following over the last several days/weeks. Please check them out and leave 'em some love:

Andie at Sweet, Southern, Spirited. ---she is sweet & Southern, takes amazing photos!

Bumpkin on a Swing --Gulf Coast Gal giving it to us straight about the oil spill.

The Grasshoppa Triplets Plus Two Momma --Smart Car stalker & Starbucks/Chapstick addict.

Francis over at This Inspires.Me I first knew her as @hipcop on Twitter. A total sweetheart.

Life Without Pink --Tina, a SAHM of two boys with lots of testosterone.

From Tracie --- Another Gulf Coast Girl, very passionate about the oil spill.

Nucking Futs Mama --hilarious mother of twins.First knew her as @nuckingfutsmama on Twitter.

I am also Tickled Pink to attend The Mommyologist's Prom on Monday, June 21, 2010. If you'd like to learn more about it or be my date (wink, wink), please read all about it here.  This prom is about those dresses that are smooshed and wrinkled up in the back of your closet. It's about proving that even though we're exhausted moms oft covered in snot, poop, and puke, we're still women underneath, and we're HAWT attractive. We don't value ourselves enough and we certainly don't consider ourselves sexy. But on Prom Night, I'm going to don that slinky dress from the dark recesses of my closet instead of hiding behind huge t-shirts, dirty jeans, and stained sweats. This will be my chance to show everyone that I clean up real good. And guess what? I'm not afraid to go stag. I don't need a date to this prom, I'm strong enough to stand alone Spanx and all. I'd be Tickled Pink if you'd join me and RSVP to Mary Mommyologist!

What are you Tickled Pink about?
